The 53rd Contingent of the Venceremos Brigade arrives in Havana this Saturday to join the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), founded by Fidel Castro on December 30, 1960.

The contingent is made up of approximately 40 young people from 15 states and more than 20 organizations that support Cuba, including pacifists, community activists, racial rights activists, and activists in defense of Palestine.

The group will participate in the ICAP’s 65th anniversary program dedicated to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and his centennial in 2026. The brigade members will participate in volunteer workdays and the main event commemorating the anniversary at the Institute, where prominent figures and friends will receive recognition for their support of the island.

They will also learn about the National Program against Racism and Racial Discrimination and pay tribute to Antonio Maceo and the civil rights activists in the United States, Malcolm X (1925-1965) and Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968).

At Camp Julio Antonio Mella, the contingent will celebrate New Year’s Day with the “65 Years of Love for Cuba” brigade and numerous other groups who traveled to Havana to celebrate ICAP’s anniversary, totaling 240 friends from 32 nations.

They will also enjoy a special performance by the National Ballet of Cuba dedicated to the triumph of the Revolution and ICAP’s 65th anniversary, followed by a visit to Matanzas, where they will tour the Provincial Historical Museum and the Museum of the Rebel Slave.

Before concluding their stay in Cuba on January 5, members of the Venceremos Brigade will meet with the “Cabildo Quisicuaba” sociocultural project, where they will attend a conference on the indigenous presence on the island.
