The interventionist policy and threats of war by the United States government against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela were condemned in this capital at a discussion held at the Casa del Alba Cultural.
Orlando Maneiro Gaspar, Venezuelan ambassador to the island, stated that U.S. actions against his country constitute a real threat, which began verbally by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and has now materialized with the presence of warships in the Caribbean Sea.
Maneiro Gaspar emphasized that this harassment is taking place amid a political imbalance in the Latin American nation, marked by the end of the electoral cycle at different levels and a growth in the gross domestic product thanks to the oil and tourism sectors. Therefore, the intention is to destabilize government structures and create chaos among the population.
He also stated that imperialism underestimated the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela after the death of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías, while under the leadership of President Nicolás Maduro, the people have resisted all attacks.
The Venezuelan ambassador also highlighted the ineffectiveness of US policy, because while they act violently, most of the lands in the Americas and the Caribbean fight and cooperate to maintain their principles and sovereignty.
Maneiro Gaspar emphasized that the Bolivarian people are prepared to combat any US aggression and expressed his gratitude for the support that sister countries like Cuba have provided to the cause.
Pavel Alemán, researcher and political scientist at the Center for International Policy Research, stated that the conflicts the United States has had throughout its history have weakened its economy, so dominating the potential of Latin America has always been a clear objective, currently emphasized by President Donald Trump.
Alemán explained that Venezuela is part of the U.S. interest in the region not only as a political opponent, but also because of its globally recognized natural resources.
The expert pointed out that the homeland of Bolívar has an unquestionable influence on the continent, hence the Trump administration’s offensive in its expansionist pursuit.
During the meeting, representatives from various institutions and from other latitudes expressed their solidarity with the Venezuelan and Cuban struggles and condemned the violations committed by imperialism around the world. Members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba also participated in the meeting.
