Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), arrived in Venezuela this Wednesday on a working visit to strengthen bilateral ties and express solidarity with the Venezuelan people and government in the face of recent international tensions.
The 11-member Cuban delegation was received at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía by Tania Díaz González, Vice President of International Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Eduardo Piñate Rodríguez, Executive Secretary of the PSUV National Directorate, and Dagoberto Rodríguez Barrera, Cuban Ambassador to Venezuela.
The visit responds to an invitation from the PSUV (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) and its main objectives include following up on the exchange and cooperation agreement signed between the two parties in August 2023; consolidating bilateral relations in various areas of mutual interest; and reaffirming the Cuban Revolution’s unwavering support for the Bolivarian process led by President Nicolás Maduro.
Through his X account, Morales Ojeda expressed: “We have arrived in Venezuela. We come to bring Cuba’s solidarity to its brave people and its legitimate President Nicolás Maduro Moros. In the face of the new imperial onslaught against the land of Bolívar and Chávez, we must today say with Martí: ‘Give me Venezuela something to serve.’”
The Cuban leader reiterated his country’s commitment to Venezuelan sovereignty in the face of what he described as “imperialist aggression,” in line with recent statements by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) rejecting “political and bellicose actions” against the Bolivarian nation.
The relationship between the two parties was institutionally strengthened with the signing of collaboration agreements in August 2023, which established cooperation mechanisms on cadre training and joint work.
These agreements were described by Diosdado Cabello, then First Vice President of the PSUV (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party), as instruments to “strengthen the commitment to integration between the two countries and carry the message of Cuba and Venezuela to the world under a single flag.”
This visit takes place in a regional context characterized by the increase in multifaceted aggression against Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, as expressed at the 14th Cuba-Venezuela National Solidarity Meeting. the international disinformation campaign about alleged Venezuelan ties to drug trafficking, which both countries reject as false.
As well as the recent US military presence in the Caribbean Sea, described by President Maduro as potentially generating a “hecatomb.”
The solidarity movement between the two peoples has strengthened organizationally in recent years, promoting a new structure based on the Communes and Communal Councils that promotes brotherhood based on practices of mutual solidarity.
During their stay, the Cuban delegation will hold working meetings with senior leaders of the PSUV (Socialist Workers’ Party) and the Venezuelan government to implement cooperative actions within the framework of existing agreements.
The visit will conclude with the signing of a joint work plan that will include exchanges in training, productive, and social areas.
This rapprochement reflects the willingness of both nations to deepen their strategic alliance amid current geopolitical challenges, reaffirming the principle of self-determination of peoples and the right to build their own political and social models without external interference.
