The ship “Manuel Gual” of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) departed Friday night from the port of La Guaira state, Venezuela, with a new shipment of humanitarian aid to Cuba.

The executive secretary of ALBA-TCP, Rander Peña, explained that this new shipment of humanitarian aid is intended to reinforce the restoration and recovery work being carried out on the Caribbean island after Hurricane Melissa.

Peña reported that the ship from this regional organization is departing with more than 7,110 tons of supplies destined for road and housing repairs.

The shipment also includes 76 containers of food and five backhoes, among other resources, to help restore the damage caused by the natural disaster.

The vessel will arrive at the Guillermón Moncada port in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba. There, local authorities will coordinate the unloading of the supplies, which will be distributed to the affected areas.

“The people of Santiago should know. “Each of our Cuban brothers and sisters, all of Santiago, and the Venezuelan and ALBA countries are united in achieving the restoration of all conditions, a return to normalcy,” said the executive secretary of ALBA-TCP.

“The Cuban people should also know that President (Miguel) Díaz-Canel is in constant contact with the team of experts we sent, who are also assisting in the restoration of the electrical grid,” he mentioned.

Peña emphasized that humanitarian aid will continue to flow, “as long as the brotherly people of Cuba need it.”

He detailed that the ship “Manuel Gual” has delivered to Cuba in recent weeks “more than 12,000 tons of various types of solutions, food, all kinds of aid, medicine, toys for children, windows for the immediate reconstruction of homes in Santiago, supplies for road repairs… this is what the brotherly people of Venezuela are doing for the brotherly people of Cuba.”
