Havana, January 14 (RHC) – Albacete spoiled Álvaro Arbeloa’s debut as Real Madrid manager today, defeating the Merengues 3-1.
Albacete secured passage to the next round of the Copa del Rey thanks to a late goal from Jefté Betancor in the 94th minute.
Argentine Franco Mastantuono (47) and Gonzalo García (90+1) scored for Real Madrid, but Javi Villar opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, and Betancor netted the first of his brace in the 82nd.
This unfortunate start marks the beginning of the former defender’s tenure as first-team manager, following the departure of his former teammate Xabi Alonso, who was dismissed last Monday.
In the other Copa del Rey matches played on Wednesday, Betis defeated Elche CF 2-1, and Alavés beat Rayo Vallecano 2-0.
The round of 16 will be completed tomorrow with the matches between Racing Santander and Barcelona, and Burgos and Valencia.
