Another container of medical aid will depart for Cuba from Belgium

The Cuba Soberana Humanitarian Project announced on Friday the upcoming departure from Belgium of a container of aid for the health sector to the island, the fifth such shipment sent by the organization, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary.

On Thursday, the shipment began its journey to the Caribbean nation with the loading of a container on the outskirts of Ghent. Members of the Belgian project, led by Reinaldo Romero, and representatives of other organizations participated, including Cubans residing in France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.

The new shipment includes oxygen masks and other surgical supplies, medicines, hospital furniture, wheelchairs, and bicycles.

Romero specified that the aid is destined for the province of Santiago de Cuba and the municipality of Jiguaní in Granma province, in the eastern part of the Caribbean country.

He also expressed his gratitude for the support received in making the initiative a reality, noting that this was the 60th container for the Belgian solidarity association Friends of Cuba, one of the organizations supporting the humanitarian project.

“We are already immersed in preparations for another container, with the expectation of sending it this year. We have secured medical equipment, resuscitation kits, and other essential health supplies,” he emphasized to Prensa Latina.

The shipment is expected to arrive on the island by summer, as part of a project that Romero insisted is driven by love for his compatriots and the land of his birth.

Cuba is experiencing particularly difficult times, marked by a tightening of the U.S. embargo, which is especially impacting the vulnerable health sector.
