Arsenal Regains Lead in English Football League

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, February 22 (RHC) – Arsenal regained their five-point lead over Manchester City in the English Premier League today, after beating Tottenham 4-1 in the North London derby.

A brace from Eberechi Eze (32nd and 61st minutes), who hadn’t scored in the Premier League since a hat-trick in November, and another from Swede Viktor Gyokeres (47th and 90+4) guided the league leaders to victory.

The team managed by Spaniard Mikel Arteta put on a display of competitive authority to banish the ghosts of relegation after two consecutive draws and regain a five-point lead over Manchester City, who sit second in the table.

For Spurs, relegated to 16th place, Frenchman Randal Kolo Muani found the net in the 34th minute.

Liverpool, in sixth place, remained in contention for European qualification with a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest (17th in the league) thanks to a goal from Argentine Alexis Mac Allister in stoppage time (90+7). Fulham (10th) defeated Sunderland 3-1, with two goals from Mexican Raúl Jiménez (54th and 61st minutes, the second a penalty) and another from Nigerian Alex Iwobi (85th minute).

In the other Sunday match, Crystal Palace defeated Wolverhampton 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ivorian Evann Guessand (90th minute).
