Havana, March 15 (RHC) – FC Barcelona, playing at the Spotify Camp Nou, thrashed Sevilla 5-2 today and extended their lead at the top of the Spanish football league.
Barcelona, who saw their arch-rivals Real Madrid close the gap in the standings the previous day, avenged their defeat to the same opponent in the first leg and reached 70 points, four more than Los Blancos.
Two well-taken penalties by Raphinha in the first 20 minutes gave Hansi Flick’s men the lead, which they never relinquished.
The reigning La Liga and Spanish Super Cup champions extended their advantage in the first half with a stunning goal from Dani Olmo, before Sevilla, who were riding a wave of good form, pulled one back through Joaquín “Oso” Martínez.
Just five minutes after returning to the pitch, Raphinha struck a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper to complete his hat trick, and later João Cancelo continued the Barcelona rout with another left-footed strike that found the back of the net.
To make the scoreline more respectable, Sevilla scored their second goal thanks to Djibril Sow in stoppage time.
This Sunday, Mallorca beat Espanyol 2-1, and later matches are scheduled between Real Betis and Celta Vigo, and Real Sociedad and Osasuna.
