Bolivarian Government of Venezuela reaffirms historical stance on relations with Cuba

by Ed Newman

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirmed this Sunday its historical stance within the framework of relations with the Republic of Cuba, as two nations whose ties have developed under the principles of international law, solidarity, and cooperation.

In a statement released by Foreign Minister Yván Gil on his Telegram channel, Caracas indicates that this position is in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international law, the free exercise of self-determination, and national sovereignty.

“The relationship between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with the Caribbean and the Republic of Cuba has historically been based on brotherhood, solidarity, cooperation, and complementarity,” the Venezuelan government maintains.

“Venezuela reaffirms that international relations must be governed by the principles of international law, non-intervention, the sovereign equality of states, and the self-determination of peoples,” it adds.

It concludes by reiterating that “political and diplomatic dialogue is the only way to peacefully resolve controversies of any nature.”

With ties built on cooperation, respect for the fundamental principles of international relations, and shared values as part of the Global South, Cuba and Venezuela have developed mutually beneficial projects in recent years in areas such as energy, health, education, and sports.

Cuba has been one of the strongest voices condemning the U.S. economic, political, and military siege against the South American country and the illegal attack of January 3, in which, along with dozens of Venezuelans, 32 Cuban combatants from the Ministries of the Armed Forces and the Interior were killed while carrying out cooperation and security missions in coordination with their Venezuelan counterparts.

Venezuela, along with ALBA-TCP, has been among the nations that have supported and cooperated closely with Cuba in its recovery from the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, which struck the eastern part of the Caribbean island in October 2025.
