Havana, December 19 (RHC) – Valencia and Mallorca drew 1-1 today in the opening match of the 17th round of the Spanish football league.
The Mestalla stadium in Valencia hosted a match in which the visitors took the lead in the first half, thanks to a goal in the 23rd minute by Samu Costa. Although the home side had several chances to equalize, they trailed 0-1 at halftime.
The Valencia team capitalized on the start of the second half, and seven minutes after the restart, Spanish striker Hugo Duro leveled the score at 1-1.
Carlos Corberán’s men attempted various methods to score another goal that would have secured them three valuable points. Still, due to their lack of accuracy and the effectiveness of the opposing defense, the scoreboard at Mestalla remained unchanged.
After the result, Mallorca reached 18 points, placing them 14th in the league, while Valencia currently sits in 16th place, with the relegation zone looming.
