Cuban volunteers: Stories of humanity and dedication without borders

May 21, 1963, marked a founding date in the history of Cuban solidarity, with the official beginning of international medical collaboration in Algeria.  Since then, and for more than six decades of uninterrupted dedication, this army of white coats has written an epic poem of altruism around the world.

In homage to this humanistic feat and the centennial of the visionary Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the main promoter of solidarity with the peoples of the Third World, Cubadebate invites its readers to participate in a special tribute.

In this call for submissions, we want to collect the stories of those men and women who have dedicated part of their lives to healing and serving in the most remote corners of the planet. Anecdotes that reflect the challenges overcome, the grateful smiles of entire families, the bonds created in distant communities, and how this experience transformed their lives forever.

What was your first day on an international mission like?  What lasting memory do you have of a patient or community you served? How did you adapt to other cultures and climates?  What lessons did you learn from this experience?

We also invite family members of these volunteers to share how they experienced these dedication processes, as well as patients or communities who benefited from them who wish to thank or remember the work of our professionals.

Each story is a tribute to those who have been ambassadors of the largest of the Antilles in the world, bearers of hope, and concrete examples that another world is possible: more supportive, more humane, more just.

Your testimony—whether in the form of a chronicle, a personal letter, a poem, or a short story—is invaluable. The key is that it stems from a real experience, capturing the profound impact of these life stories.

Participating is very simple.  You can send your testimony to the email address: comentacubadebate@gmail.com or publish it directly in the comments section of this call for entries.

We ask that you include your full name, municipality, and province of residence, so that your voice — full of identity and roots — enriches this well-deserved tribute.
