Borussia Dortmund Wins and Moves into Second Place in German Football

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, December 19 (RHC) – Borussia Dortmund defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 today to take sole possession of second place in the German football league.

Signal Iduna Park was a riot of color, with stands packed with black and yellow fans supporting the home side, who took the lead in the 10th minute with a goal from their star player, Julian Brandt.

The team managed by former Croatian footballer Niko Kovac had the task of winning their opening match of Matchday 15 to maintain their hold on second place in the Bundesliga, as they were tied with Leipzig, both with 29 points, and they fulfilled that objective perfectly.

A match with few scoring opportunities after Brandt’s goal, controlled from midfield and tactically well-organized by Kovac, set the stage for the rest of the game until, in the 97th minute, Maximilian Beier sealed the 2-0 victory at Signal Iduna Park.

With this victory, Dortmund reached 32 points, six less than the leader Bayern Munich (38) and in second, with three points above Leipzig and six above Bayer Leverkusen.
