Call for Visas for Cuban Olympic Athletes Campaign

by Ed Newman

The U.S. government is denying visas to Cuban athletes seeking to compete in the Summer 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Join an international video call, Sunday, November 23 to launch a world-wide campaign demanding: “Let them play!”

Washington has refused to grant a visa to any of the more than 80 Cuban athletes who have applied to participate in qualifying games that are a prerequisite for them to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics games.

This is not only a violation of the rules of the International Olympic Committee, but also an attack on the right of U.S. sports fans to enjoy the high level of competition that Cuban teams have always delivered to the games.

We believe that the Olympics should not be used as a political weapon against the Cuban people.

Our primary focus will be to organize the broadest number of athletes from the sports world alongside concerned artists, unionists, religious, campus figures, prominent individuals and others, to remind members of the International Olympic Committee from various nations and organizations of their obligation to honor the organization’s own charter.

Cuba’s Instituto Nacional de Deportes, Educación Física y Recreación (INDER) fully supports this campaign. We share a common goal: “Let them play!”

We hope the Trump Administration will decide that the political price it will pay—if it continues this unpopular attack on the Olympic games, on Cuba’s sovereignty, as well as on the democratic rights of the American people—is too high.

We will carry out this campaign in the broadest, inclusive and most democratic fashion.

And we need your help to make it a success.   Our call on Sunday, November 23rd will be the first step.

Please join us!
