Casa de las Américas calls for defending regional peace

by Ed Newman

The Casa de las Américas cultural center, located in Havana, has denounced the military aggression against Venezuela and called for the defense of peace and sovereignty in Our America.

The cultural institution recalled, through an official statement on social media, that on January 3rd, regional tranquility was shattered by a U.S. attack on Venezuela and the subsequent kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Defending Venezuela today is defending the sovereignty of all peoples and the right to a future without wars in Our America.

The text warned that following the initial offensive, threats of plunder against Venezuelan resources and possible actions against other countries have been announced, posing a danger to the stability and self-determination of the region.

Under these circumstances, the center demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Maduro and his wife, the cessation of all foreign interference, and full respect for the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people.
