The Canopus Voyager, owned by the U.S. company Chevron, set sail this Sunday from Venezuela with 500,000 barrels of Venezuelan oil bound for Texas, amid a campaign by the Trump Administration to illegally intercept and seize tankers loaded with crude oil from the South American country and their crews in international waters.
Reporting on Sunday’s operation, Executive Vice President and Minister of Hydrocarbons Delcy Rodríguez emphasized on her Telegram channel that it was carried out “in strict adherence to regulations and in compliance with the commitments made by our oil industry.”
She added that “Venezuela has always been and will continue to be respectful of national and international law. Nothing and no one will stop our nation on its path of progress and victory.”
The Venezuelan vice president’s post includes a video in which a worker reports on the cargo volume, the Chevron vessel, and its destination: Texas.
Rodríguez stressed that the shipment is part of the existing agreements with Chevron, which maintains operations in the country under Venezuelan law and international conventions.
The Venezuelan government maintains that these actions strengthen energy cooperation and guarantee the continuity of hydrocarbon production and exports under conditions of mutual respect.
This scenario is affected by the Trump Administration’s recent campaign, contrary to international and maritime law, of acts of piracy against private vessels carrying Venezuelan crude oil in international waters of the Caribbean Sea. In this context, the Caracas government emphasized that operations such as Sunday’s departure of the Chevron vessel are carried out in compliance with national and international law.
The Venezuelan oil industry remains a central engine of the economy, with the goal of consolidating its growth and guaranteeing energy supply within the framework of the Productive Independence Plan.
