Chilean Communist leader says an attack against Cuba is an attack against Latin America

The president of the Communist Party of Chile (PCCh), Lautaro Carmona, stated this Monday that the world is currently experiencing the most dramatic situation since World War II, with violations of international law and attempts to strangle peoples like Palestine and Cuba.

The statement was made at a commemoration of the 41st anniversary of the murder of Chilean activists José Manuel Parada, Santiago Nattino, and Manuel Guerrero, a crime known as the “Degollados Case.”   On March 30, 1986, during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990), their bodies were found near Santiago’s international airport.

Speaking at the event, Carmona addressed the current situation in Chile, where the new government of Pinochet supporter José Antonio Kast threatens serious setbacks in human rights. In this regard, he warned about the intention to pardon those who committed crimes against humanity during the dictatorship and the impact on the Search Plan for the Disappeared and the Sites of Memory.

On the other hand, the president of the Communist Party of Chile (CPC) recalled that UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned of entering an era of chaos.   The leader denounced the violations of established codes for dialogue and the resolution of bilateral and multilateral disputes, as well as the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the aggressions against Iran and other Middle Eastern countries.

“Faced with the growing operation by the Yankee empire to destabilize and invade Cuba, we Chilean communists have a historically firm position: a blow to Cuba is a blow to the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean,” Carmona stated.

Recently, a delegation from the CPC and the Chilean Communist Youth participated in the Our America Convoy, which delivered aid to the Caribbean nation to help it cope with the US blockade, intensified after Donald Trump’s decision to cut off fuel supplies to the island.

The president of the Communist Youth, Catalina Lufín, led the delegation made up of deputies Boris Barrera, Daniela Serrano and Luis Cuello, senator Daniel Núñez, as well as members of solidarity organizations.
