Havana, March 28 (RHC) – Matanzas Crocodiles lost 0-9 to the American club Kane County Cougars, and are on the verge of being eliminated from the Baseball Champions League of the Americas, based in Mexico.
This was the second loss for the Matanzas team, which has only one win to its name. Therefore, it is obligated not only to defeat the home team, the favorite and reigning champion Diablos Rojos, this Saturday, but also to wait for the results of the other games.
At Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium, the Matanzas team managed only five hits, and now has 14 consecutive innings without scoring, including the last five in Thursday’s 6-16 loss against the Dantos de Managua.
The northern team decided the game with the five runs they scored against starter Brander Guevara, who couldn’t complete the fourth inning.
Reliever Rafael Orlando Perdomo allowed the remaining four runs in that fourth inning, driven in by home runs from Armond Upshaw and Todd Lott.
With that unfavorable score, Ferrer handed the ball to left-hander Yamichel Pérez, who, in a losing effort, completed the game without allowing a run.
The win went to right-hander Brandon Komar, who allowed just two hits and struck out five in 5.0 innings.
Just like in the game against the Nicaraguan club Dantos, the Saurios suffered 11 strikeouts. With their bats silenced, a victory seems impossible.
