Communist Party of Cuba condemns U.S. hostility against Venezuela

by Ed Newman

The Communist Party of Cuba has condemned the hostility of the United States government against Venezuela and reaffirmed its support for the United Socialist Party (PSUV) of that South American nation.

In a statement, the organization declared that the “threatening deployment of US imperialist military forces in the Caribbean Sea” confirms the US administration’s intention to “reimpose the Monroe Doctrine in our region.”

Furthermore, it called “fallacious” the White House’s accusation of “associating the Venezuelan government and its constitutionally elected President with criminal organizations linked to illicit drug trafficking.”

“The recent assault and criminal seizure of a ship carrying Venezuelan oil by Washington’s military forces; The total and complete blockade of oil tankers entering and leaving the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its arbitrary designation as an international terrorist organization constitute dangerous actions, intentionally orchestrated to justify the realization of interventionist and dominating interests of the United States,” the text states.

“In this complex context for the homeland of the Liberator Simón Bolívar and Commander Hugo Chávez, and for the entire Latin American and Caribbean region, the Communist Party of Cuba reiterates its unwavering support and solidarity with the PSUV, its national leadership and members, as well as with the popular, military, and police coalition led by President Nicolás Maduro.”

The Communist Party of Cuba also urged leftist and progressive forces to “mobilize and unite our voices in denouncing and demanding an end to the escalating aggression by the U.S. government against Venezuela.”

“We are convinced that the unity, resolve, and courage of the Venezuelan people and their leaders will overcome the vile neocolonial ambitions of the White House,” the statement reads.

“We express, more strongly than ever, the words of our National Hero, José Martí, in July 1881, which encapsulate the essence of our commitment to the Bolivarian nation: ‘Give me, Venezuela, a way to serve her: she has in me a son,’” the Party declaration states.
