Havana, December 14 (RHC) – Cristian Menéndez achieved his goal of retaining the title he defended at the XXXVI World Junior Racquetball Championship in the Dominican Republic 2025.
Cuba’s sole representative in the tournament secured his second consecutive gold medal, defeating South Korea’s Taen Woo 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-8), the same opponent he beat last year at the world championships held in Guatemala.
Menéndez had an excellent tournament, also achieving two victories in the group stage and another in the semifinals.
His preliminary wins came against Yan Huang of Hong Kong (3-0) and Evan Whitley of the United States (3-1).
In the match for a place in the gold medal game, he again defeated Huang 3-0, with scores of 11-4, 11-6, and 11-5.
The world championships concluded this Saturday at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in the Dominican Republic’s capital city.
The competition attracted more than 300 contestants from countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Costa Rica, Ecuador, the United States, Mexico, Peru, Cuba, and the hosts.
