Cuba Achieves a Couple of Successes in the Baseball5 World Cup

Havana, September 26 (RHC) – This Thursday, Cuban team achieved a pair of victories and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Baseball5 Youth World Cup held in Nayarit, Mexico.

Coach Sergio Arturo Pérez’s students first defeated South Korea 2-0 (15-0, 12-2).

Kevin Hidalgo-Gato excelled in hitting: 5-for-7 with four RBIs. Rachel de la Caridad Medina drove in five teammates in the first period.

In the second period, captain Carlos Alejandro Rivera stood out, going 6-for-7 with three RBIs.

In the round of 16, Cuba defeated Syria 2-0 (16-1, 9-3). The data published on the tournament’s website reflects that Adis Yudith Espinel was a true storm: she went 9-for-11 with seven RBIs and stopped everything hit against her at third base on defense.

Eros Bernal, head coach of that sport, confirmed that the team will have two more games this Friday.

First, against Lithuania in the quarterfinals, and if they win, they will face Mexico in the semifinals that evening.

The tournament will award the winner a direct ticket to the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, where Baseball5 will debut at that level.
