Cuba condemns hypothermia deaths in Gaza during Israel’s genocidal siege

by Ed Newman

Cuban authorities have condemned the recent hypothermia deaths of dozens of citizens in the Gaza Strip and held the Israeli government responsible. “We denounce the deaths of at least 17 people from hypothermia in Gaza, including four children,” declared the island’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez.

In a message on the social network X, the Foreign Minister stated that the victims had to sleep “in tents and other inadequate shelters, due to the destruction of 81 percent of all structures and buildings in the Strip caused by Israeli bombings.”

He also emphasized that the “Zionist regime must stop the genocide and extermination to which they are subjecting the Palestinian people.” And Cuba’s top diplomat demanded that Israel “ensure the broad and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid to allow for the urgent reconstruction of homes and the care of all people.”

According to official reports, nearly two dozen people have died in recent days as a result of the sharp drop in temperature and the inability to access shelter and food, due to the deadly situation in the enclave.

Gaza Civil Defense warned that an intense cold wave is threatening the lives of children, as many families lack adequate heating amid worsening humanitarian conditions caused by the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
