Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, congratulated renowned Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto Jiménez today on his 75th birthday.
“To my dear friend and brilliant intellectual who proudly displays his revolutionary commitment without ever abandoning his quintessentially Cuban humor, Abel Prieto, congratulations on your youthful 75th birthday,” the president declared on his Twitter account.
On the same platform, Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the PCC, sent a warm embrace to Prieto Jiménez and affirmed that he deserves all respect and recognition for his fruitful career.

A graduate in Hispanic Literature from the University of Havana, the politician, writer, editor, and professor began his professional life as a Literature and Spanish teacher.
In the publishing world, he served as editor and head of the Theory and Criticism section of Letras Cubanas and was later appointed director of the Letras Cubanas Publishing House.
He headed the Juan Marinello Cultural Center and the National Directorate of Literature, until his promotion to Vice Minister for Books and Literature.
Abel Prieto was president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and, later, Minister of Culture of Cuba, a position he held until March 6, 2012, after being appointed advisor to the President of the Councils of State and Ministers.
In 2016, he was reappointed Minister of Culture, and in 2019 he assumed the directorship of Casa de las Américas, a position he currently holds.
Abel Prieto was elected to the Central Committee and the Political Bureau at the Fourth and Fifth Congresses of the Communist Party of Cuba. He has been a member of the National Assembly of People’s Power since 1993 and served on the Council of State.
