Cuba congratulates Mexico’s new foreign minister

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has congratulated Roberto Velasco on his reappointment as Mexico’s Foreign Minister and reiterated Cuba’s commitment to strengthening the historical ties between the two nations.

Through his account on the social media platform X, the head of Cuban diplomacy congratulated Velasco on his confirmation by the Mexican Senate.

Rodríguez expressed his gratitude for the statements of support for Cuba and the expressions of solidarity with the Cuban people made by the new Foreign Minister, and emphasized Cuba’s commitment to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and bilateral cooperation.

Velasco was confirmed in the Senate to serve as Foreign Minister, following his appointment by the President on April 1st.

Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the previous head of the agency, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, had decided to step down for health reasons.

In a video shared on X alongside the two officials, the mayor expressed her appreciation for De la Fuente, acknowledged his excellent work, and affirmed that he is part of the transformation project. She added that, once his rehabilitation is complete, he will return to another role.

Regarding Velasco, she said that he is not only an expert in international relations, particularly with the United States and Canada, but also has extensive knowledge of foreign policy and “has done a great job as Undersecretary.
