Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has criticized a new U.S. veto of a draft resolution in the UN Security Council calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Cuban foreign minister asserted that Washington’s decision demonstrates the complicity of that government in the genocide carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people.
The proposal, promoted by the 10 non-permanent members of the Council, also called for the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave, given the precarious situation of the population, living in famine conditions and with hospitals on the verge of collapse.
The other members of the Security Council — 14 of the 15 — voted in favor of the draft resolution, but its adoption also required that none of the permanent members (the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France) vote against it.
This is the sixth resolution the United States has vetoed at the United Nations on the Gaza conflict.
