Cuba denounces new escalation of aggression by the United States at the United Nations

by Ed Newman

Cuba has denounced at the United Nations headquarters in this capital the latest and most serious escalation of the hostile policy of the United States government, calling it a brutal act of aggression.

Karlen Regaiferos, Second Secretary of the Cuban Mission, delivered the presentation during the 63rd session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, diplomatic sources reported.

In his remarks, the Cuban diplomat linked the new aggression (an Executive Order threatening a total blockade on fuel imports) to the historic US economic blockade against Cuba.

“These measures, along with Cuba’s inclusion on the unilateral U.S. list of ‘State Sponsors of Terrorism,’ constitute the main obstacle preventing the island’s full participation in international space cooperation,” he stated.

As part of the general debate, Cuba reaffirmed its historic commitment to the defense of outer space as an exclusive domain for peace, international cooperation, and sustainable development, for the benefit of all humanity.
