The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba issued a statement in which it made an urgent call for the preservation of peace in the region, in the context of the belligerent actions launched by the United States in the Caribbean Sea.
The document stated: “We support the message of the President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) denouncing the disproportionate and aggressive deployment of naval and air assets, including a nuclear submarine, and the high number of US personnel in the Caribbean Sea.”
The text also emphasizes that “the militarization in the Caribbean over the past several weeks constitutes a blatant act of interference by the United States government.”
“Its implementation expresses the philosophy of imperial domination based on the Monroe Doctrine, which spans more than two centuries and is the foundation of its interventionist ambitions in the Americas.”
The statement added: “On behalf of our peoples, we are committed and obligated to act urgently and deliver a message of peace to the US public to prevent the bloodshed of Latin Americans, Caribbeans, and also US citizens.”
“Dozens of people have already died in attacks perpetrated by U.S. forces against vessels in the area, acts that qualify as extrajudicial executions and constitute a flagrant violation of international law,” the Cuban parliamentary commission denounced.
“Let us raise the voices of legislators from our region and the world to stop the threats and criminal intentions of the current White House administration, which, under the pretext of waging a war on drugs, conceals the true purpose of overthrowing the constitutional government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and seizing that country’s valuable natural resources,” the Cuban parliamentary commission asserted in the statement.
The Cuban parliamentary commission’s call comes in the context of the U.S. military deployment, through which, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking, more than 80 people have been extrajudicially executed in the waters of the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific since last September in more than 20 attacks.
