Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, reaffirmed today the commitment to continue strengthening ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), during his virtual participation in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, held in Moscow, Russian Federation.
According to sources from the Presidency, the head of government thanked Belarus, in its capacity as pro tempore president of the Union, for the invitation to participate in the meeting, and highlighted the importance of consolidating cooperation with member and observer states.
Marrero explained that Cuba could not attend in person due to the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa, which affected the national electrical grid, more than 100,000 homes, roads, and 168,193 hectares of crops in the eastern provinces.
He noted that the country is in the recovery phase, thanks to the efforts of the government, its institutions, and the people, along with international solidarity aid, including that of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The Prime Minister thanked the governments of the Union for their support of the resolution adopted on October 29 by the United Nations General Assembly, which demanded an end to the United States’ economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba.
He recalled that, for the thirty-third time, the General Assembly, with a large majority, called for an end to this policy, and acknowledged the statements rejecting Cuba’s inclusion on the list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism.
Marrero denounced that the new measures implemented by the Donald Trump administration, following his return to the White House, have been aimed at economically strangling Cuba by targeting its revenue, supplies, and fuel.
He emphasized that, despite these adversities, the country continues to implement its development strategy, centered on equity, social justice, and environmental sustainability, as well as the Government Program to correct distortions and revitalize the economy.
Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz indicated that, at the fourth session of the Joint Commission between the Eurasian Economic Commission and Cuba, held within the framework of the Havana International Fair, areas of cooperation were identified, such as the logistics hub, health tourism, food and energy security, business cooperation, and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
He added that it is essential to advance financial integration to strengthen interbank ties and explore payment mechanisms that overcome the barriers of the international financial system.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the Main Guidelines for Cooperation in the Field of Sport, adopted in Minsk in June, as another opportunity to strengthen ties in areas such as sports tourism, sports medicine, and the organization of joint forums.
Marrero affirmed that the history of friendship with the Eurasian nations forms the foundation for building a strategic partnership and developing concrete actions for the benefit of the people.
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz concluded that Cuba will continue working with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to advance the resolution of the problems affecting the country and expressed his best wishes for the well-being and progress of the member states in 2026.
