Havana, December 12 (RHC) – World runner-up Marifelix Sarría (+86 kg) won two gold medals and one bronze in the weightlifting qualifying competition for the Central American and Caribbean Games of Santo Domingo 2026, which concluded today in the Dominican Republic.
The Cuban athlete won gold medals in the clean and jerk and total, with lifts of 155 kg and 269 kg, respectively. She also secured bronze in the snatch with a lift of 114 kg.
Another Cuban athlete who competed this Friday at the José Joaquín Puello Pavilion in the Parque del Este sports complex was Lorena Montoya (86 kg).
The athlete from Guantánamo finished sixth in the snatch with a lift of 95 kg, fifth in the clean and jerk with 125 kg, and sixth in the total with 220 kg.
With this performance, Cuba concluded its participation in the competition with five gold medals, one silver, and eight bronze.
In addition to Sarría, Otto Oñate also won gold medals in the 60 kg category. Raibet Machado took silver in the same division.
Ludia Montero (48 kg), Edisnel Corrales (79 kg), and Yorelvis Machado (94 kg), along with Sarría, secured bronze medals.
The Cuban team also qualified 14 athletes for next year’s Central American and Caribbean Games, as confirmed by Camilo Reinaldo Ramírez, the national sports commissioner, from the host city.
