Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, expressed on social media Cuba’s strong rejection of the naval blockade imposed by the United States government against Venezuela.
In his message, the Cuban president reaffirmed his firm support for President Nicolás Maduro, the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution, and the Popular-Military Union that sustains the Venezuelan process.
Díaz-Canel also emphasized Cuba’s full support for the statement issued by the Venezuelan government in response to the U.S. measure, while describing the action as a new aggression against the sovereignty and self-determination of the Venezuelan people.
The official statement from the Venezuelan government, dated December 16, 2025, and endorsed by the Cuban president, denounces a serious threat from U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that Venezuela’s oil, land, and mineral resources belong to him, demanding their immediate surrender.
According to the statement, Trump intends to impose a naval blockade to seize these resources, which constitutes a violation of international law, free trade and freedom of navigation.
The document emphasizes that Venezuela reaffirms its sovereignty and its right to free navigation and trade, and announces that its ambassador to the UN will file a formal complaint regarding this aggression.
Likewise, the statement confirms that the nation is committed to defending its rights in accordance with its Constitution, national laws, and the Charter of the United Nations.
Cuba and Venezuela maintain a historic relationship of solidarity in defense of Latin American and Caribbean integration against Washington’s policies of pressure and hostility.
