Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Permanent Representative of Cuba, took part on Tuesday in the interactive dialogue on the High Commissioner’s oral update regarding the human rights situation in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where he expressed his support for the country’s institutions and sovereignty, Cubaminrex reported.

Rodolfo Benítez stated that Cuba rejects the imposition of punitive, selective, and biased mechanisms in the area of human rights, which disregard national institutions and become instruments of interference against countries of the Global South.

The Cuban diplomat pointed out that the cause of human rights cannot be used as a pretext for intervening in the internal affairs of states, and warned that endorsing such practices would irreparably damage the defense of these rights.

In his address, he denounced the hostile actions and the threat of the use of force against Venezuela by the United States government, while emphasizing that defending the Venezuelan people’s right to live in peace calls upon all those who uphold the UN Charter and International Law.

Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez demanded the immediate cessation of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Venezuelan people, which he described as inhumane and illegal, seeking to subdue them through cruel means and severely hindering their development.

The diplomat insisted that this body’s obligation is to promote respectful dialogue and genuine cooperation with Venezuela, based on the principles of impartiality, non-politicization, and non-interference.
