Havana, November 22 (RHC) – The Cuban U-17 men’s volleyball team will face their US counterparts today in the semifinals of the NORCECA continental tournament being held in Nicaragua.

The match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. local time at the Alexis Argüello sports complex in the Nicaraguan capital, and according to Cuban coach Lian Sem Estrada, the team arrives motivated and with their sights set on victory.

“We’re going to prepare a better strategy, we’re going to think and play our game. If we win, we’ll advance to the final, which is our greatest desire; but we’re taking it one step at a time, we have to respect the opposing team.”

This Friday, the Cuban team beat their Costa Rican counterparts 3-2 in a hard-fought and exciting five-set match in the quarterfinals.

The United States team enters this afternoon’s match undefeated after defeating the Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-18) on Thursday.

The tournament is organized by the North, Central America, and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA), the Nicaraguan Volleyball Federation (FNVB), and the Nicaraguan Institute of Sports (IND), and awards berths for the World Championship in this category next year in Qatar.
