Havana, October 9 (RHC) – While several members of Cuba’s elite boxing pre-selection are training in China, the regional segment of the national series is about to make two of its three stops.
This was reported by Commissioner Robinson Poll, who specified that the group consists of 13 men and one woman, distributed across four cities in the so-called Asian Giant.
Among the former are two-time Olympic champion Julio César La Cruz (+90 kg), fellow world champion Erislandy Álvarez (65 kg), and 2023 world silver medalist Fernando Arzola (+90 kg).
That roster also includes two-time Cuban champion Keilor García (80 kg) and current silver medalists Yusnier Sorsano (70 kg) and Yusiel Bes (50 kg).
It also includes other well-known athletes such as Osvaldo Díaz (57 kg), Frank Cleger (50 kg), and Darieski Palmero (65 kg). The women’s competition is provided by world champion Dayira Mesa (70 kg), who knows how to lead at home.
Regarding the national series, Poll stated that action is about to begin in the western (October 12-20) and eastern (October 12-19) zones, in Pinar del Río and Holguín, respectively.
The former will also host teams from Mayabeque, Havana, Artemisa, Matanzas, and Isla de la Juventud. The eastern zone will include teams from Las Tunas, Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, and Granma.
The venue and date of the central zone will be determined soon.
