Cuban Duo Remains Undefeated at the Beach Volleyball World Championship

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, November 17 (RHC) – The Cuban beach volleyball duo of Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo maintained their undefeated record at the Adelaide World Championship in Australia, after coming back to defeat the Portuguese pair Pedrosa/Campos 2-1 today.

The victory, forged with heart and skill with scores of 17-21, 21-15, and 15-12, sealed the Cubans’ undefeated run in three matches in Group F, a feat achieved with the ferocity of those who refuse to back down.

The first set, marked by errors in receiving and an inconsistent attack, was left behind when the sand demanded courage: Cuba emerged with an indomitable block, patient defense, and the conviction that every point had to be won as if it were the last.

Díaz and Alayo imposed rhythm and character, supported by 29 attacks, eight blocks, two aces, and constant pressure that broke the Portuguese strategy. The tiebreak, played under a tense silence in the sand, became a manifesto of composure: the Cubans rose to the occasion where others falter, managed the small details better, and closed out the set with authority.

The victory reaffirms the upward trajectory of the Caribbean duo, who had clearly dominated the New Zealand pair and who exhibit, day after day, a competitive maturity capable of inspiring all of Cuba.
