Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has warned about the growing influence of belligerent sectors within the administration of US President Donald Trump, whom he described as “hawks” willing to violate international law.

In statements published on social media, Rodríguez indicated that these officials “speak without hesitation of an international order based on force and military power,” a stance reminiscent of “the worst years of plunder through war.”

The top Cuban diplomat emphasized that this policy not only threatens global peace but also puts the lives of thousands of low-income young Americans at risk, who would be recruited to participate in military operations anywhere in the world.

Furthermore, he criticized the squandering of billions of dollars on wars, in open contradiction to the campaign promises that brought the current government to power and which, he said, “betray their own voter base.”

The foreign minister reiterated Cuba’s rejection of any attempt to impose the law of the strongest and defended the need to preserve the principles of international law, forged after centuries of conflict.
