Cuban Parliamentary Commission denounces Washington’s criminal policy

by Ed Newman

The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba has condemned the latest escalation by the United States government, considering it evidence of the criminal nature of its economic warfare policy against Cuba.

In an official statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), Cuban parliamentarians endorsed the position of the Revolutionary Government expressed on January 30 and rejected the recent Executive Order by the US president, which labels Cuba a threat to the national security of that country.

The statement emphasizes that Cuba is a nation of peace, firm in its condemnation of terrorism, and recalls that for more than six decades it has been the victim of state terrorism and a cruel and unjust economic blockade.

The text also warns that the tariffs imposed on countries that supply oil to Cuba violate international law and the sovereignty of states, in addition to undermining regional stability and disregarding the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

The Commission reiterated Cuba’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States, always on equal terms and with respect for national independence and sovereignty, while calling on parliaments worldwide to denounce Washington’s hostile policy and urging the American people themselves to reject this injustice, the publication states.

The text expresses gratitude for the messages of solidarity received from various countries, legislative bodies, and political organizations that advocate for respect for human rights and the progress of the Cuban people.
