Cuban President Díaz-Canel: Aggression against Iran violates International Law and jeopardizes regional peace

by Ed Newman

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel condemned the attacks perpetrated this Saturday, February 28, by the United States and Israel against Iran, calling them a flagrant violation of International Law and the Charter of the United Nations.

In a message posted on his official Twitter account, the Cuban president denounced these actions as a violation of Iranian sovereignty and territorial integrity, constituting an act of aggression that, for the second time, undermines diplomatic efforts related to the nuclear issue. Such acts, Díaz-Canel stated, endanger regional and international peace and security.

The Cuban president warned that the effects already seen in this volatile region demonstrate the danger of a military escalation with unpredictable consequences. Therefore, he urgently called on the international community to act immediately to stop this aggression and prevent further escalation.

Previously, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, also denouncing the attack in a post on his social media account, noted that this is the second time such an act of aggression has occurred, precisely while international talks on the nuclear issue were underway. Rodríguez Parrilla warned that these “irresponsible actions undermine international peace and security” and constitute “a clear violation of International Law and the UN Charter.”

The Cuban Foreign Minister urged the international community to mobilize to immediately halt the “treacherous aggression” against Iran. Cuba reiterates, once again, its long-standing position in defense of multilateralism, the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and the unrestricted respect for the sovereignty of nations.

The recent air offensive against Tehran comes just months after the military intervention of June 2015, when Israel carried out an attack that triggered a major exchange of missiles and drones. This confrontation, known as the “Twelve-Day War,” was characterized by direct attacks by the Israeli regime on nuclear facilities and the assassination of high-ranking military officers, key officials, and nuclear scientists along with their families.

The escalation in 2025 intensified due to the direct intervention of the United States, under the orders of Donald Trump, who carried out bombings on three key Iranian nuclear facilities.

Although the US president claimed at the time that Iran’s nuclear program had been “destroyed,” this assertion was questioned even by Washington’s intelligence agencies.

In response to the US aggression, Tehran attacked the most significant US military base in the Middle East, located in Qatar.

Although a ceasefire was declared between Tel Aviv and Tehran on June 24, 2025, to halt hostilities, the current joint Israeli-US operation shatters the relatively achieved calm. This new turn in the violence reaffirms the policy of systematic aggression against Iranian sovereignty, ignoring the history of a war that already demonstrated the Islamic Republic’s capacity to respond to external attacks on its strategic points.
