Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the National Defense Council, led the main activities for National Defense Day on Saturday, where he confirmed the cohesion and readiness of the forces of the territorial defense system.
During a tactical demonstration exercise at the Sanguily Combat Glory Tank Unit, the Head of State was accompanied by Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, and other high-ranking military officers, the Presidency reported.
Díaz-Canel Bermúdez congratulated the combatants for the levels of organization and discipline they demonstrated, and emphasized: “The best way to prevent aggression is for imperialism to have to calculate the price of attacking our country.”
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic highlighted the importance of the systematic training of regular troops, the Territorial Troop Militias, and the Production and Defense Brigades.
He spoke with university students participating in shooting practice and combat maneuvers, highlighting the value of their willingness as an expression of support for the Revolution.
“Here, no one surrenders,” was the collective response of the young people, a reaffirmation of the patriotic spirit that characterizes the new generations, the statement noted.
At another air defense unit, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez verified the optimal condition of the combat equipment and witnessed demonstrations of response to a potential enemy attack.
At the end of the day, the President emphasized that unity and patriotism are guarantees of victory: “By participating in this way, preparing ourselves for the defense of the Homeland, we achieve unity, and when we have united, history has shown that we have always achieved victory.”
