Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, expressed today on his social media accounts the Cuban government’s concern regarding the situation of two missing Mexican vessels that were transporting aid to the island as part of the Our America Convoy.

“We express our special concern for the two Mexican vessels that were transporting aid to Cuba as part of the Our America Convoy.

From our country, we are doing everything possible in the search and rescue of these brothers and sisters in the struggle.”

Meanwhile, the Mexican Navy, through Press Release No. 019/2026, reported that the Navy Plan, specifically its Search and Rescue (SAR) component, was activated to locate two sailboats with nine crew members of various nationalities. The vessels departed on March 20 from Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, bound for Havana, but their arrival has not yet been confirmed.

According to the Mexican institution, the vessels were expected to arrive between March 24 and 25. Surface and air units, including Persuader aircraft, were deployed, and naval commands and search and rescue stations in the region were alerted.

The press release specified that international coordination is being maintained with maritime rescue centers in Poland, France, Cuba, and the United States, as well as with diplomatic missions from the crew members’ countries of origin, to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of information in real time.

The civilian solidarity voyage, like that of the Granma 2.0, part of the Our America Convoy, was distinguished by its humanitarian and symbolic nature, transporting more than thirty tons of food, medicine, and solar panels from Mexico to Cuba, with the participation of 32 internationalist volunteers and journalists from eleven countries.

The journey evoked the historical memory of the Granma yacht of 1956, but transformed its meaning toward peaceful cooperation and international solidarity, reaffirming the brotherhood between Mexico and Cuba.
