Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the National Defense Council, assured that the recovery phase from the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa is progressing with the conviction that no one will be left to their fate.
On his official X account, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic specified that the preliminary toll of this storm on homes is 45,282 affected.
He reported that in the most recent session of the Defense Council, this Monday, the recovery efforts were reviewed, and that resources have already begun to be distributed to damaged homes.
Díaz-Canel stated that donations are being received and distributed from nations, organizations, institutions, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and the solidarity movement of the entire Cuban people.
Progress is being made in restoring electricity and water supply, although much work remains to be done. More than 120,000 Cubans remain protected, the head of state emphasized.
According to reports from the Council, as of noon on Monday, the province of Las Tunas had reached 94.5% electrical service restoration; Holguín, 40.5%; Granma, 50.4%; Guantánamo, 58.7%; and in Santiago de Cuba, many circuits are already prepared for when the Felton thermoelectric plant is operational.
Regarding water service, the province of Las Tunas has already restored services to pre-Melissa; Holguín is at 54.7% restoration; and Granma at 30%. Guantánamo at 81.2%; and Santiago de Cuba at 84.3%
