Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, has reaffirmed Cuba’s historic solidarity with the Palestinian cause, on the 50th anniversary of Palestinian Land Day.
In his message on the social media X, the president stated: “On Palestinian Land Day, we reaffirm Cuba’s historic solidarity with the just cause of a people who have been illegally, violently, and persistently dispossessed of their lands by the genocidal government of Israel.”
Díaz-Canel concluded by quoting the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, emphasizing their enduring relevance: “Let the philosophy of dispossession cease, and the philosophy of war will cease.”
Palestinian Land Day is commemorated every March 30th in memory of the events of 1976, when six Palestinians were killed in Galilee during protests against the illegal confiscation of land by Israeli forces.
Since then, the date has become a symbol of resistance against the occupation and reaffirms Palestinian national identity, with cultural events, marches, and demonstrations both in the occupied territories and in the diaspora.
The commemoration is also an expression of international solidarity, in which diverse peoples and organizations denounce the policies of colonization and support the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
