Cuban president receives Palestinian students at the Palacio de la Revolución

More than 100 young Palestinians studying medicine in Cuba were at the Palace of the Revolution this afternoon, where they were received by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in a day filled with emotion and solidarity with Palestine.

Some are undergraduate students, others are doing their residencies, and some are completing their undergraduate studies, but all are marked by the pain of their homeland and the solidarity they have received in Cuba. They spoke of all this to the Head of State in a moving conversation.

Personal stories of suffering and also of resistance were heard; of their families under Israeli bombs and the complicity of the United States; of their lives in Cuba, of the challenge of language, and of the love they receive everywhere. They spoke of the island as their home.

The president told them that these meetings, at the Anti-Imperialist Tribune and here, are held because of our commitment to the Palestinian cause, so that you feel supported; you are not alone. You have fathers, mothers, and siblings here, he assured them.

“Being with you strengthens our convictions. Listening to you speak, learning about your life stories, hurts a lot, and that pain increases our commitment,” he asserted.

The Cuban leader remembered Fidel and his tireless struggle for Palestine. “We grew up hearing him speak about Palestine, denouncing the crime; we grew up supporting this cause.”

“You are not in Cuba by chance,” he told them. “We are two peoples in resistance, under attack. We consider you our children. No matter how difficult times are, there will always be a space to support you.”

“You are the future of Palestine. You are being trained not only as doctors, but as revolutionaries, as good men and women,” he stated.

A similar meeting took place in November 2023. This meeting takes place two years after the deepening of a genocide that shames the world.
