by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, March 1 (RHC) – Today, Cuba’s women’s football team will face Curazao as part of the World Cup Qualifiers.

The match will take place at the Antoni Maceo Stadium in Santiago de Cuba at 3 pm local time. This will be the second outing of the team under the command of Elizabeth Cuff, after a tie in their first match against Saint Kitts and Nevis.

This match is crucial for Cuba to advance to the next phase. Therefore, defending home advantage is of utmost importance.

The squad includes goalkeepers Lucylena Martínez and Erika Acea, who will support the defensive efforts of Sheyla Wanton, Yarisleidy Mena, and Gianna Borrego.

Other regulars on the roster include Nahomi Aguilar, Laura Moreno, Elianne Valdés, Yeranis Lee, Maristania Mengana, Eunises Núñez, and Indyra Hechevarría.

The squad is rounded out by Kennys Arocha, Ana Josefa Fernández, Delennis Acosta, Yuliet Crespo, María Karla Blanco, Samantha Andino, Sabrina Bahamande, and Diamelys Regla.

Goalkeeper Alianne Matamoros was unable to join the training camp due to circumstances unrelated to the Football Association competition.

The women’s football officials of the federation also confirmed that Jessica Pupo has not yet joined the team due to unavoidable personal reasons.

After this clash, the Cubans will travel to Aruba on March 7 to play their second game of the day against the local team, in what will be their third game in Group E of the qualifier, which closes on April 17 against Panama.
