Cubans Lead the Wrestling League in Caracas

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, October 9 (RHC) – Three Cubans lead their respective divisions in the Simón Bolívar International Olympic Wrestling League, held in Caracas, after going undefeated in five bouts.

The first five rounds of the competition took place last weekend at the Benil de Ascanio National Educational Complex.

The trio of Cubans who remained undefeated in that segment—with two remaining—attended the 2025 Asunción Junior Pan American Games.

They are the silver and bronze medalists: Darrell Lee (freestyle, 125 kg), Joenni Gómez (Greco-Roman, 77 kg), and Brenda Sterling (freestyle, 68 kg).

Cuba, competing under the name Mambises, showcases its tackles and off-balances with a representation of 16 athletes, with a highlight for the top figures of their respective national teams.

In addition, the Tigres Salvadoreños team includes the bronze medalist in the regional youth event, Dalianni Carrales (freestyle, 68 kg), who traveled with two exponents in that weight class.

The competition brings together teams from five other countries: Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, and the host country, which has three.

The tournament is governed by a round-robin team format, with actions during three weekend stops, all in the current month of October: 4-5, 11-12, and 17-18.

The final gala will be dedicated to the four best representatives of each division based on previous results.

From Monday to Thursday, participants participate in productive training sessions that also prepare them for upcoming commitments.
