Cubans living in U.S. demand an end to aggressive policies against families

Solidarity with Cuba and a call to end the blockade.

Cubans living in the United States gathered in downtown Miami, demanding an end to the economic suffocation policies imposed by the Donald Trump administration on Cuban families.

Participants condemned the restrictions on Cubans, the threats to cut off humanitarian aid and the measures being taken against travel to Cuba.

At a previous gathering, the José Martí Cultural Association in the United States stated that “we find ourselves in a moment of extreme danger, where maintaining the ties of care for our family in Cuba is at stake.”  “Once again, we must demand and make it clear that the Cuban family is sacred,” the text emphasized.

Those who attended the peaceful demonstration this Sunday chanted slogans and carried banners that read: “Long live the Cuban family,” “Let Cuba live in peace,” “Cuban families do matter. Long live Cuba,” and “Yes to travel.  Yes to remittances,” among others.

When Trump assumed his second term on January 20, he reversed all the measures belatedly taken by his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden — including the unilateral and arbitrary re-inclusion of Cuba on the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism.

So, while the Caribbean nation grapples with its worst economic crisis in decades due to the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade, the Trump administration is toughening its stance.

For Cuban authorities, the White House’s policies have shifted from “maximum pressure” to “maximum aggression.”
