Cuba’s Casa de las Américas condemns Trump’s threats against Venezuela

by Ed Newman

Cuba’s Casa de las Américas has joined the international condemnation of the United States’ interventionist policy against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

“From Casa de las Américas, we support the Bolivarian Government’s condemnation and join in its rejection of Mr. Trump’s grotesque threat,” stated a message on the X network from writer Abel Prieto, president of the prestigious cultural institution.

On his behalf, the Cuban intellectual reiterated Cuba’s solidarity “with the brave Venezuelan people and their legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro. They shall not pass!!!” he concluded.

The condemnation comes in response to the announcement made this Tuesday by US President Donald Trump on the Truth Social network, in which he declared Venezuela a foreign terrorist organization and ordered a total and complete blockade of all oil tankers entering or leaving the country. The measure, adopted six days after the seizure of a tanker off the Venezuelan coast, significantly increases Washington’s pressure on the Bolivarian government.

In his message, Trump accused Caracas of drug trafficking, terrorism, and the illegal appropriation of U.S. assets, and asserted that Venezuela is “completely surrounded by the largest navy ever assembled in the history of South America.”

He also warned that he would intensify the military encirclement and promised “shocks like never before” until, according to his threat, oil, land, and other assets allegedly “stolen” are “returned” to Venezuela—allusions that the Venezuelan government has denounced as unfounded and colonialist.
