Cuba’s Ministerio de Turismo (MINTUR) has denounced the false information about the alleged diversion of distributions of humanitarian aid that circulates on media and digital platforms, which also address the distribution of donations to hotels on the island near where Hurricane Melissa hit.
Through an official publication on the Ministry’s Facebook page, the legal entity assures that this information is false. And MINTUR asked people to not disseminate fake news on the social media, as it only causes confusion.
The Ministry of Tourism declared that they are a competent organization to manage donations received, indicating that “the official information on the donations is being communicated through the channels authorized by the competent institutions.”
“We must all keep in mind official sources and contribute to ensuring that informational responsibility and accountability prevail,” the organization clarified.
Hurricane Melissa affected the Caribbean region in eastern Cuba at the end of October, generating wave of solidarity with Cuba from around the world, as well as the proliferation of unconfirmed information in social networks.
