Havana, March 1 (RHC) – Cuba secured its first victory in the Concacaf qualifiers by defeating Curacao 3-0 and takes the lead in Group E.
With three penalty goals converted by Katheryn Rodriguez, the Cuban women’s national team, coached by Elizabeth Cuff, demonstrated their superiority by creating more scoring opportunities and ultimately deciding a match that remained close until the first penalty kick.
With this result, Cuba reached four points in Group E of the qualifying competition. Their first match in this phase ended in a 2-2 draw against Saint Kitts and Nevis.
This qualifying tournament is divided into six groups, with matches played at various CONCACAF venues, in this case, Cuba. The winners will join the United States and Canada to compete in the final phase in November.
These two teams are the highest-ranked CONCACAF teams in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking and therefore advanced automatically to the next round.
