The Cuban Petroleum Union (CUPET) has reported that the crude oil shipment that arrived Tuesday morning at the port in the western province of Matanzas, originating from Russia, will be refined in the country to produce diesel, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline.

Irenaldo Pérez Cardozo, deputy director of the entity, specified that “the first of these products will be allocated to distributed electricity generation and essential economic activities.”

Fuel oil will be produced for the barges and thermoelectric power plants in Mariel and Moa, and liquefied petroleum gas for cooking food in critical facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes.”

The Cupet executive also noted that “a certain level of gasoline will be produced to alleviate the current situation with demand for the product.”

According to the information, the first finished products are expected to begin distribution during the second half of April.

Sources from the Ministry of Energy and Mines indicated that the cargo of the Russian oil tanker Anatoly Kolodkin, estimated at approximately 100,000 tons of crude oil, will allow the National Electric System and other economic activities to continue operating for approximately 10 days.
