Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has celebrated the arrival in Havana of the Nuestra America Convoy sailboats, which transported supplies from Mexico as a show of solidarity in the face of the complex situation the island is currently experiencing.
“Finally in Cuba, these sailboats of the #OurAmericaConvoy, which had us anxiously awaiting the time, the horizon, and the slightest communication about their routes.”
Díaz-Canel emphasized that the expedition arrived “with its cargo of necessary resources but, above all, with its cargo of love in defense of just causes,” and highlighted that a three-year-old girl is the youngest crew member of this expedition, which reiterates that #CubaIsNotAlone.
At the Havana Cruise Terminal, Gerardo Hernández, National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, welcomed the sailors yesterday.
The Hero of the Republic told them they were arriving in a nation under siege and facing shortages of medicine, food, and energy, but one that responds with love, peace, solidarity, and gratitude.
The flotilla departed on the 21st from Isla Mujeres, Mexico, in response to the call from the Nuestra America Convoy. Adnaan Stumo, spokesperson for the group and a U.S. citizen, informed the press that the voyage was extended due to adverse weather conditions that forced several changes to the itinerary.
The activist stated that the people stand with Cuba and pledged to confront the maximum pressure strategy implemented by Washington.
After completing his stay on the island, he will travel to Spain to organize a new international flotilla bound for Gaza, he specified.
The crew, made up of nine people, transported medical supplies and food to deliver to the Cuban people, a gesture they described as an act of solidarity and resistance against the blockade imposed by the United States.
