Havana, April 1 (RHC) – The Ministry of Employment and Labor of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) declared today a paid holiday due to the national football team’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, after beating Jamaica 1-0.

The country is experiencing euphoria after the victory, with celebrations in the streets until dawn. In Kinshasa, thousands of people left their homes to celebrate, despite the rain, as the national team had not reached the World Cup for 52 years.

President Félix Tshisekedi and First Lady Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi celebrated the DRC Leopards’ victory in the intercontinental playoff final, held in Guadalajara, Mexico, according to the Congolese Press Agency.

The president congratulated the players on the national team’s return to the World Cup after more than half a century and for fulfilling the dream of an entire generation, which contributes to strengthening national unity and cohesion, the source indicated.
